Interesting story from the Baltimore Sun about corrupt political players in Philadelphia.
"Cianfrani [a state legislative leader] was notorious not only for his political machinations, but also for his many mistresses, who embroiled him in many scandals.
In 1972, he was caught paying for an abortion for one of them at a time when he was pushing a law to ban abortion in the state. His conviction a few years later resulted, in part, from the discovery that he had used some of his ill-gotten money to purchase an expensive home with a kidney-shaped swimming pool in Cherry Hill, N.J., for yet another inamorata. When she became a witness against him, the FBI alleged that he tried to kill her with poisoned hamburger, but was spared when she fed the meat to her dog."
