The first two sentences of his article explain his motivation:
"Because it's the right thing to do. Because I love my fiance and want her right to choose protected, always--even though it's unlikely she would ever choose an abortion."
Even though it's unlikely that she would ever choose an abortion.
If you were a woman who had had an abortion, would you wonder what makes his fiancee so different from you? Would you suspect that the differences between the two of you to which he elliptically alludes are differences that would leave you feeling less than flattered?
