From the weekend advice column in USA WEEKEND, a Sunday supplement that is inserted in 598 newspapers:

Q: My girlfriend of three years just admitted she's pregnant and plans to terminate the pregnancy. Although it's too late to do anything now, I'd like to know for future reference: Does a man have any legal rights when it comes to this type of decision? B.R., Alabama

A: Although a man does have the power to prevent pregnancy in the first place -- by using condoms -- he currently has no legal right to prevent a partner from having an abortion. That said, research shows that dealing with the termination of a pregnancy can be hard on both men and women. If you feel hurt or depressed, don't just swallow your feelings. Open up to a close friend or relative, and let yourself go through a grieving process -- anger, sadness, gradual acceptance -- to move past this painful episode.
