Those who have/had young children especially will appreciate this story, shared long ago by the director of my son’s preschool/kindergarten, which had special “names” for the children’s various classrooms, when he was in Pre-K as a 4-year-old:
“There were some interesting conversations that took place while the kindergartners were learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. Margaret and Sally H. made a cake to celebrate this civil rights leader’s birthday at our school. One of the [pre-K] Creative Climbers asked me, ‘Which room is this Martin guy in anyway?’ I started to explain that he was not here at [our preschool] when one of the classmates, cutting to the quick, said, ‘He’s dead!’ The first little boy was wide-eyed. ‘He’s dead?! He died before he could eat his birthday cake??’”That’s my boy!
