I wrote about denial last week, and this motivated Christina of Real Choice to reflect on a peculiar kind of denial she has encountered in the pro-choice community--namely, the idea that abortion is only legal up to twelve weeks. I've never run into anyone who believes that. In my world, I regularly work with women who had legal late-term abortions that were unrelated to maternal or fetal distress.

Over the weekend, a friend sent me a link to Gender Gappers, so I was able to see for myself that some folks really do believe that "late term abortions are against the law in every state, except as necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother."

This is a particularly interesting form of denial. That link, by the way, has graphic renderings of babies with significant disabilities.

Update: See detailed additional commentary at the RealChoice blog.
