When we receive a request like this from my friend Fr. Stephen (who came to hear me speak at the Connecticut Right To Life Convention, introducing himself to me two years ago as a seminarian who, in his bachelor days, regrettably helped a girlfriend abort their unborn baby), it's because it's just a bit more than the folks helping can provide from existing donors.
That's the only reason why we don't hear about this kind of stuff more often; they still are doing this kind of thing daily. It always gets worse around the holidays.
Please help if you are moved and if you can. Even $5. Thanksgiving is coming, and Christmas after that. Maybe these families can have a little more to be thankful of, because of you.
And I don't need to know who you are or that you responded, but I respectfully challenge our pro-choice readers, especially the lurkers, to chip in a few bucks or else go help some other women locally with their choice to keep their babies and pay their rent and utility bills post-partum:
We have 3 women from Ct. in need. Merly (name changed) and her family of 5 children need some help with utilities ($200) and the 2 women below, being helped by St Gerard's (crisis pregnancy center in Hartford, CT), need help with rent as explained by Debra who is on the board of St Gerard's.The center is named for St Gerard Majella, patron saint of expectant mothers, children, mothers, motherhood, the unborn and the pro-life movement.
If you wish to help Merly, you can easily do so by phone by calling CNG at 1-860-524-8361. The acct is in the name of Jose Valdeiglesia. [Email me, Annie, if you plan to do so, and I'll provide more details.]
If you can help St Gerard's (tax deductible) with rent money for JoAnn and Martha then please send a check to:

IF YOU ARE MOVED TO HELP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW FOR WHOM AND HOW MUCH SO I CAN KEEP TRACK OF AMOUNTS FOR EACH WOMAN UNTIL OUR NEEDS ARE MET. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY. Father Stephen
Subject: St. Gerard's Moms in Need!
Hello Fr. Stephen,
Two Moms in early pregnancy who are considered "at risk" for abortion are presently in need of rent money. Martha (name changed) who is pregnant with her second child is facing eviction this week if she doesn't fulfill the payment on her bill of $325. Because her state funding got tied up in paperwork, she is incapable of paying it and was told that her belongings in her apartment will be placed on the street. St. Gerard's is reaching out to our supporters to help us keep this Mom in her apartment so she won't give up on her pregnancy. (She also was dismissed from her shipping/receiving job due to being pregnant and is presently looking for work that complements her computer skills.)
JoAnn (name changed) tells us that she was given referral at the "So-Called" Catholic Clinic to go get an abortion. This is a tempting idea to "JoAnn" who wants what she considers to be an easy way out of all her setbacks surrounding the pregnancy. So far, she's holding on to the pregnancy but kicking and fighting to find a way to ease her conscience if she gets an abortion. We need prayers for her. She is one of our turn-around mothers. And we need $300 rent money for her. So far, Thanks be to God, she is still choosing Life!
Anything you can do to help these St. Gerard's Moms keep their babies will be appreciated. God Bless You.
-Debra, St. Gerard's Center, 1-860-670-1712 or 860-548-9500.
