Ashli's been pleading.
UPDATE BELOW...
Even got Amy Welborn (who has 7,918 readers daily) and The Raving Atheist to blog about it.
And two other blogs too.
So far they're batting one. donation. per. blog, for a woman who may still abort her baby rather than risk losing her house. So far she's decided not to, but still has here-and-now real risk of losing her house since she can't work due to the pregnancy problems. Details here. Her daughter was 15 weeks in utero as of Nov. 18.
Ashli reports that "things with the mother and daughter are still quite precarious."
Ashli's going to keep posting it every day until we get the help this woman needs. The remaining need is "$1,750 to render the mortgage payment issue a non-issue...so that she is guaranteed not to lose her house through May 2006 when the baby is due."
Let's see. We get here about 447 unique visitors daily here. Say some of those are repeats, leaving 400 people.
IF ALL 400 OF US HERE EACH SENT A LOUSY $5 TO THIS CHURCH COLLECTING THIS MORTGAGE PAYMENT MONEY FOR THIS WOMAN, SHE'D HAVE $250 LEFT OVER FOR A NICE CHRISTMAS DINNER AND MAYBE SOMETHING NICE FOR HERSELF.
How many of us spend more than $5 on a flippin' latte once or five times a week?
What are we waiting for? We all can afford a lousy fin.
Forget the "bystander effect" Ashli refers to a la the Kitty Genovese case, that "with all the blog press, tons of people must be helping this mom and baby, right?"
All the blog press got close to bupkis so far. Let's get off our keisters and every. last. one. of. our. readers. send at least $5.
Pro-choicers, you too. Help this woman with the choice she wants to make.
Please contribute any amount to:
New Philadelphia Presbyterian Church
P.O. Box 344
Quincy, Florida 32351
This church will send the payment directly to the mother's mortgage company. Please clearly mark your tax-deductible contribution "Crisis Pregnancy Ministry" in the memo field.
UPDATE: I received a query from a friend about this, asking if I'd "checked this out first" to determine it's a legitimate request. It occurred to me that others--who don't know me as long or as well as I thought that friend did--might ask the same question.
So here goes: I don't send around these requests unless they are from personal. longtime. friends. I know. and trust. This isn't some stranger sending me an unsolicited email. Ashli, my friend who is personally emotionally helping this pregnant woman, is herself a woman who chose to have her latest child, born a year and a half ago, even though she suffers from Hyperemesis Gravidarum during any pregnancy (she throws everything up for 10 months, cannot eat). It is the reason Ashli aborted one child earlier, and she has come to regret it so deeply and vowed she would not ever, ever do it again, no matter if it killed her. And this pregnancy almost did.
I hope those who know me well would know by now I'm the queen of the skeptics and I don't pass on myths, hoaxes or questionable requests. I've known Ashli and we've been through the prolife, postabortive ministry "trenches" together for over 2 years. I trust her with my life.
UPDATE TWO: We've gotten 11 more people to send a check, probably for $5, not counting me. THANKS and BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL. 389 more to go.
