WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two additional deaths have been reported after women took the abortion pill known as RU-486 or Mifeprex, U.S. regulators said on Friday. From September 2001 through November 2004, there had been actually 5 or 6 North American maternal deaths from this, by various causes including sepsis and fatal blood clots.
The Food and Drug Administration said it has not been able to determine the cause of the newly reported deaths. Four previously reported fatalities were linked to a bacterial infection that developed after the women took the abortion pill, which is sold by privately held Danco Laboratories.
And by July 2005, 8 women had died.
I'm not sure if today's news makes a total of 10, or if they've just finally started really adding prior deaths to what they release to the news media.
