Speaking of adoption...this was written by Angel, a fostered-then-adopted young person.
If It Wasn't For You
Some days I wake up in a good mood,
Some days I wake up in a bad mood,
Some days I want to quit,
But some days I just never want to stop.
I think about my future,
Not much about my past.
Some days I wonder if I would become what I want to be,
How would I get there?
Am I on the right road?
Or am I on the wrong one?
What would happen if you weren't there for me?
Where would I be?
Some days I want to thank you, but I just don't know how.
You have both done so much for me,
That's why I thank you.
If it wasn't for you,
Would I be dead?
Maybe not where I am
I owe it all to you,
For not giving up on me
Showing me my future
Supporting me till the end,
When I graduate and go to a far away college
I would never forget that you helped for so long.
Words can't describe what you've done for me,
If it wasn't for you and many other people in my life,
Only God knows where I would be.
Thank you
My parents.

Considering I was in the process of being adopted some 48 years ago, when times were a lot different (in some good ways, some bad), I'd say this was good timing to pay homage to this young person's words.
