Calling all people, especially those who live or work in the coverage area of the print editions of The Journal News: Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties in New York:
Regarding the response op-column to Theresa's recent op-column, this has just appeared:
Claims that abortion causes mental illness are 'fake' and 'deceiving', by JANE MATLUCK, (Original publication: June 7, 2007)
Of course, Matluck is a board member of the local Planned Parenthood.
Of course, that's why she doesn't tell readers the whole story.
Please consider writing either a letter to the editor or, if you're a reader in the above-listed areas, submitting a guest column opinion piece to point out the truths they refuse to acknowledge.
Like how the APA listed abortion in its DSM-III-R Manual for 7 years as a psychosocial stressor that could lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Like all these studies, vetted and published by respected medical journals, showing links to increased clinical depression, neurotic depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment reactions, schizophrenic disorders, psychiatric admissions, alcohol- and drug-abuse since Surgeon General Koop's so-called "report."
Or just your own personal experience.
Women who are hurting from abortion just fear seeking help for their distress even more when crap like this is printed and namecalls them for "fake" and "deceiving" pain and trouble.
I just want to throw up over these ad nauseaum Ellen-Goodmanisms of the mainstream press.
